Well, you all may remember my 'Noriko WIP' thing, and me raving about how I'm getting back into digital art adn what not.
I'm a tad rusty, so I've been using this picture to try out some new techniques. I followed a different eye tutorial this time, I did a hair tutorial too.
I need some feedback. You guys have probably seen my other art, like 'WarioWare: Ashley' and 'Ryouta' where my hair is quite boring. Is this better, worse, what? Any suggestions.
Yes, I did use the 'clouds' thing to maket he sky, and I did use the grass brush for the grass. Is that cheating? The focus was supposed to be on Noriko. She is indeed a character from my little story. Some of you may know what I'm talking about. Ayako's daughter, this is when she was younger. Now her hair is more refined and flippy.
Um, is the neck supposed to be going out of the pic? I think it would look more natural going down. Did you draw this with the mouse, or draw it, scan it, and then color it? The chin could be a bit more defined, and (this is just me) I think the hair should be all one shade, with highlites and shadows, instead of streaks. Um, keep the eye shape but have the hair line over, but don't color it...does that makes sense? Wow this is a really long comment but I hope that helps! I'm still trying to learn how to do stuff on the computer haha.

Neck: Ah, I see your point. I'll have to work on that. Draw: I drew it on paper, scanned it, then inked and colored it with a mouse on the computer. Chin: Specific suggestions? I don't know how to make chins defined. Hair: It is all one shade, with LOTS of shadows and highlights. I guess that's wrong? I don't know, I kind of like it mroe looking at it now then I did when I made it. Hair line: I gotcha. Sense: It makes.
Glad it makes sense I didn't want to be confusing, haha. Well what I meant with the hair was like, you did strokes with the mouse, is that what you were going for? *shrugs* I ink mine and then scan it cuz I'm not good with the mouse...it comes out terrible. It's hard to explain with the chin, but here's the best I can think of: draw the nose, from under the nose make a line not straight down but a little slanted out, come back in a little, back out to the same degree, back down, then stant down a bit...that was a terrible explanation. Like...this: [link] Er, kinda big, but that's what I uh...attempted to explain.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. Usually a highlight is just a streak or two, instead of throughout the hair. What program are you using? If you're using PS, you can switch the brush to a weight sensitive so that if you push harder, it's a different shape. That really make the hair look defined and with pointed ends. If you're using a mouse, you can also do it like with a real pen, and just do it manually.
Eyes: It's a side portrait, so it should be more of a < shape, not like one from the front. And I actually draw the hair over the eyes and colour it in, since hair isn't transparent.
Chin: Well, more defined would be more like so the space from the bottom of her nose to her top lip, triple that, and put it under her chin.
For the shading of the face, you can also do more of a brown color, instead of a blonde, like the hair.
Good luck!

Oh, and I don't really think the brushes are cheating, unless you were really doing a crazy picture. Though the grass looks a little dead. Haha.
